Constructing a Site

In online business, owners would need to come up with a team that has many skills and from different disciplines in the creation and maintenance of web sites. The many elements of the site design that include the graphics, authoring (using standard codes), interface design, and search engine optimization among others.

This also describes the design process that relates to front-end (client side) design. Work on the design partially overlaps that of web engineering in the bigger context of web development.

The design work for websites is typically done as a teamwork covering its many different aspects. Some designers can also work alone, covering all the site design aspects.

Tools

Today’s web site designers have many tools and the current technologies available. These tools are updated by newer standards and software, although the principles are basically the same.

On graphics, for instance, they used both the raster and vector graphic editors in making web-formatted images. The technologies available now are the standard HTML and CSS.

These are hand-coded or generated by the WYSIWYG editing application. There are other tools and other testers for usability and accessibility. This is to ensure that the site meets all accessibility guidelines.

Static web

There are two types of web sites.  The first one, a static website, stores unique files for every page of the site. Every time that page is requested, the same content is presented. This content is created once during the time the site was created. It is usually manually authored.

Static sites are simpler to host because its server need only to serve static contents, and do not execute server-side scripts. They need less server administration and they could serve pages more quickly on low-cost server hardware.

Typically, almost all sites have some static content. Supporting assets like images and style sheet are usually static, even on sites with highly-dynamic pages.

Dynamic web

This type of sites is created on the fly. They use the server-side technology in generating web pages. Typically, they extract their content from one or more back-up database queries in a relational database.

These are used to query a catalogue and summarize numerical information. The databases (like the Mongo NB or NoSQL) are used to store large units of contents (blog posts / wiki articles).

During the process, dynamic pages and mocked-up using static pages. The skills needed to develop dynamic pages are much more than those needed in creating static pages. They involve server-side, database coding, and client-side interface design. All these are done as a team effort.

Marketing

Marketing and communication design on a website may identify what works for its target market, and are decided on by the project manager and the clients. The main goal is to have the designers understand the meaning of the type of site they are designing.

On sites like a business-to-business marketing, the design considerations will differ considerably from a consumer-targeted website like retail or entertainment website, for instance.

Experts however rate as very good sites those that are neither stodgy nor too far out in design, content and navigation. Surprisingly, they go for simple but practical sites for the average user.

Ease of use

A website, experts and marketers agree, should all be easy to use and navigate. When users visit your website, finding the information they are looking for should never be a chore.

A website where one struggles to get through across loses that customer for some simple but crucial reason like perhaps not being able to jump from page to page..

Relevant content

Any content that is irrelevant to the users is useless and should not be there at all. For instance, if your website is a job board, it should have content and tips related to being a good candidate.

You don’t have to create a professional resume or perhaps how to behave in an interview. And you certainly would not post something about cars or sports on a job board.

Modern

In your planning stage in the construction of your site, be sure to use the current trends and technologies today. You do not want to build your website that does not support today’s needs.

For modern websites, responsiveness and fluid web designs are the key requirements. You will not want to create fixed page layouts for your website that doesn’t support mobile readability.

Optimized

Your website and its content needs to be optimized for different devices, different browsers, data speed, search engines, and different users. If your website is not optimized for mobile data users and their download speed, users may leave your website.

If your website does not support common modern browsers, you may be missing out on some users. If your website is not optimized for popular smart phones and their sizes, users may not want to visit your website.

Responsive

Responsive Brisbane webdesign is a modern need and everyone wants it. A responsive website changes its layout and options to fit the device and browser size.

For example, a website may provide more options on a large PC monitor compared to on a mobile phone but are compatible with both communication devices.

Performance

Does your website load fast enough to show visitors what they are looking for? Your website can’t be slow when presenting content to its visitors.

If your website takes more than two seconds to load, it is probably too slow.

Reliability

Is your website reliable If, for instance, I apply for a job, does your website send me on-time notifications and messages to keep me posted?

Is your website accessible whenever and wherever?. Does your website up and running 24/7?

Secure

Security is a major concern to today’s web visitors. You need to make sure that your website follows industry standards and guidelines. For example, if you have user registration feature, you want to make sure that user passwords are encrypted and not displayed in plain text.

You also need to ensure that your website is secure and uses SSL encryption. If you’ve forgotten a password feature, you do not want to provide a reset password feature without asking the security questions to the user
